Alaska Scenic Drive – Anchorage to Soldotna

Drive the 3-hour national scenic byway from Anchorage to Kenai. Stop along the way at numerous marked scenic access viewing points, wildlife viewing stations and hiking trails. Gas stations and facilities are available one hour south of Anchorage in Girdwood (the Tesoro gas station) and two hours into your drive time in Cooper Landing. Public restrooms are available at numerous places along your route.
Call 5-1-1 for travel advisories: Travelers in Alaska can obtain information about weather-related conditions, construction activities and other relevant travel information by dialing 5-1-1. The system is both voice and keypad activated. Travelers can also access the system by logging onto http://511.alaska.gov.
Please honor the state laws. Headlights must be on at all times. Travel the posted speed limit. If you are not comfortable or able to travel the full speed limit, pull over often and allow others to safely pass you. The law requires that you pull over at the nearest pull out if you have 5 or more vehicles behind you.
Accidents happen along the Seward and Sterling Highways each year due to travelers not following these state laws. If you see a driver who is driving dangerously, call 9-1-1 and report every dangerous driver.
