Soldotna Fishing Charters on the Kenai River – Just Know How Much We Appreciated Our Stay
Date: January 18, 2014
We began talking about an Alaska trip a couple of years ago and decided we were looking for a well-rounded experience that would include a few days of fishing. After a lot of research on the web, I narrowed the search down to include a few days on the Kenai Peninsula. Denise Lake Lodge offered everything we both wanted. Itâs a short distance off the main road and very quiet, but close to several good restaurants in Soldotna so we had choices for dinners. Itâs also centrally located to access the best fishing. Our cabin was perfect and comfortable and the food prepared by the lodge was wonderful. We were we given the option each day of a full breakfast and they packed lunches for us to take. Kudos to the staff for making those homemade meals available even when the guests are leaving for fishing at 5 a.m.
Greg was mostly excited about fishing, so we requested an assortment of fishing days that would be fun for a woman, too. The guides were professional and courteous and gave us the best experience possible. Denise Lake supplied the waders and even had womenâs sizes! We caught our limits of Silvers while fishing for Sockeye and we seemed to be one of the very few boats on the river having all that success. The halibut day was pretty windy and the tides were crazy but we were on a nice boat and caught our limits again thanks to a great guide.
Then we were off for Rainbow Trout in a drift boat where the scenery was incredible â you just canât see what youâre missing until you spend some quiet time drifting. Each day provided us with new ways of fishing and unlimited experiences.
Jim and Elaine offered us a Kenai Fords dinner cruise which was also amazing. We got close to otters, sea lions, seals, a gray whale, and lots of birds in addition to an incredible landscape. It just couldnât have been any better.
Our trip included an assortment of experiences that made us both happy. Our fish was processed and packaged to fly home with us and survived the airlines just fine. We brought home amazing pictures, plenty of fish, and memories to last until we can go back. Alaskaâs Denise Lake Lodge made it all possible.
